The All-Leather Nike Air Rift Gets Doused In “Fire Red”

The 1990s cult classic gets a premium upgrade.

The All-Leather Nike Air Rift Gets Doused In “Fire Red”

The tabi-toe Nike shoe inspired by the barefoot runners of Kenya is getting a classy upgrade for Holiday 2024. Traditionally comprised of elastics, the Air Rift is authoring a new chapter with a handful of leather colorways, this upcoming “Fire Red” option being the latest.

Despite becoming popular in Japan at the turn of the century, the Air Rift never really entered mainstream consciousness during its heyday. Given its unequivocally odd tooling, it’s not necessarily hard to see why. However, considering the “gorpcore” wave and unrivaled consumer interest in the strange and unique, the Air Rift might have fertile ground for success in 2024. This “Fire Red” colorway is joined by white and black leather options for women, slated to hit nike.com and select boutiques on October 24th for $130. Moreover, the Beaverton brand has also crafted a ballet-inspired pair featuring elaborate ribboning.
