SLAM Magazine’s impact on basketball culture can’t be understated. From its humble beginnings as an industry outcast to becoming the household name it is today, Dennis Page’s publication changed the tone of media coverage for the better, making hoops discourse more palatable and in-tune with what readers crave.
As the publication continues celebrating 30 years in business, the NBA recognized SLAM’s indelible mark by inducting both Page and SLAM itself to the Hall of Fame; an honor bestowed on only the most iconic names and institutions. For our purpose, they’ve also been marking the milestone with hoops shoes inspired by their many iconic covers.
In 2021, just a year after she was drafted, SLAM christened Sabrina Ionescu “The Next Queen Of NY” on its annual Future Edition cover. As is often the case, SLAM’s moniker proved more than fitting. With three WNBA All-Star selections under her belt and a championship pursuit currently underway, the New York Liberty guard is one of many basketball sensations to live up to SLAM’s bold projections.
Taking note from SLAM’s Issue #231 cover and New York Liberty jerseys all the same, SLAM and Nike have convened on Sabrina’s signature shoes. Largely thought of to be one of the best Nike Basketball signatures available at the moment, the Sabrina 2 “30th Anniversary” comes doused in Tiffany-esque teal with metallic silver accents. Not without special touches, text reading “SLAM” and “30” appears across the heels. Incognito “S” detailing around the lateral Swoosh creates another tie between Sabrina and Slam, although that’s a mainstay feature and not necessarily unique to this pair. The shoes are accompanied by special packaging to match, complete with teal patterns and both brand insignias.
Unfortunately, SLAM Magazine’s Nike Sabrina 2 is for friends and family only and will not see a public release. In any case, enjoy detailed images below and tap our Sneaker Release Dates page to preview hoops shoes you can actually get your hands on.
