There’s a lot of significance behind this shoe; far more than what initially meets the eye. While its bluescale skeletal theme is sure to command holiday appeal regardless, the Kobe 5 “X-Ray” alludes to the infamous “Broken Not Beaten” t-shirt Nike released after the Mamba’s fifth championship win in 2010 (dropping again later this year, by the way). Evoking the relentless pursuit of victory championed by Nike and Kobe all the same, the sought-after shirt, and these Kobe 5s by extension, honor Kobe’s five chips as well as the injuries he sustained in order to get them.

Shown here via official images, the Kobe 5 “X-Ray” stands out by way of a skeletal foot graphic over the base, presented in the same manner as a radiograph. The rest of the base and midsole cleans up in dark blue, while the Swoosh and outsole come in teal. Moreover, the outsole and edges of the foot graphic both glow in the dark for added intrigue.

As mentioned, these release on October 17th for $190 via Nike SNKRS and select retailers. See our “Where To Buy” section for the full store list.
