Truly, where does atmos find the time? It feels like every other week, we’re spotlighting another collab pair coming out of the Japanese streetwear institution, and right on time, they’ve got another one in the hopper.
As is custom for many atmos releases, creative director Hirofumi Kojima provides the first look at the atmos ASICS GT-2160 “Tapetum,” tastefully arranging several detail angles without revealing the colorway in full. Even from these partial looks, you can spot some early sections of note: colorful pops on the exposed GEL in the sole, a camo-like pattern on the insole, and a whole host of reflective detailing on the upper.
“Tapetum” is the sub-head, a biological term with uses in botany, but likelier here referring to an optical layer in many mammals that reflects light (the cause for bright flashes behind the eye when spotting a house cat at night, among others.) Though we’ll wait for atmos to confirm ties between the two pairs, it’s hard not to think of the atmos GEL-KAYANO 14 currently amid its own rollout, that pair pulling from the plant kingdom for its glow-in-the-dark accents.
Though concrete release information for the atmos ASICS GT-2160 “Tapetum” hasn’t been revealed just yet, Hirofumi Kojima shares that the pair will drop sometime in December. Expect a more straightforward explanation of the themes behind this release in the lead-up. For now, check out the teaser shot embedded just below.
