Vintage athletic wear has never been more in style, and with the resurgent run of throwback soccer styles, every brand with a shoe that fits the bill is mulling over retro releases. Luckily for PUMA, they’ve got access to one of the more storied silhouettes in the category — the PUMA King Indoor. With the King line in general worn by some of the game’s most iconic players, the brand announcing a bring-back effort requires unpacking, something Boston retailer Bodega is lending a hand in accomplishing.
The King product line is one of the most vaunted in the history of the German brand, worn by pitch titans like Maradona and Pele during their primes. Though the Indoor cut wouldn’t emerge until the tail end of the 1990s, many of the most characteristic aspects from the on-pitch style remain on the lifestyle proposition, including the fold-over tongue and textured stitching that cuts natural padding into the upper. Gilded accents throughout, particularly notable with the stitched log on the tongue and at the quarter, further stamp the legendary status of the model for this retro effort.
Bodega will be the first retailer to launch the PUMA King Indoor, taking place via bdgastore.com on December 14th. Retail is set at $120. Further down the line, additional retailers will be receiving stock, but that wider launch isn’t expected until 2025.
