The demand around Kobe Bryant’s footwear line has grown to the point where Nike felt compelled to create Kobe Brand, an official sub-division of its Basketball category dedicated to celebrating the legacy of the Black Mamba. Even adidas is responding to the demand by bringing back the original Kobe models from his adi era, and this February, the three stripes could have the most-wanted pair of Kobes at All-Star Weekend.
However, it must be noted that the shoes are no longer officially Kobe signature shoes. Instead, adidas has rebranded the entire series as the Crazy line, and the Kobe 2 Retro you see here has been aptly renamed to the Crazy 2.
Sneaker News first reported the news of the retro back in June; today, we have official images of the upcoming adidas Crazy 2 “All-Star” in its original white/yellow/black colorway. This was the last official signature shoe for Kobe before he cut ties with the German brand and eventually signed with Nike.
The Kobe 2 was inspired by the Audi TT, the two-door roadster renowned for its avant-garde design. With a molded upper, stitch-less construction, and uber-sleek finish, the Kobe 2 with an extremely polarizing design as it had both the staunch supporter and vocal critic. Despite it being ahead of its time, Kobe allegedly hated the sneaker, which motivated him to break free of the contract and eventually begin the infamous sneaker free agency period.
Regardless, adidas will be launching the Crazy 2 around All-Star Weekend for $160. The Silver/Black colorway is also expected to release.
