The Doernbecher Freestyle has touched a milestone twentieth year in 2024, and after a spirited unveiling late last year, Nike is finally ready to launch the sextet of footwear designed by the young patients of OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.
For the first time ever, the Air Max 180 in all its forms has been introduced to the Doernbecher Freestyle; tasked with the design is Ja’Kai Taylor, a young athlete who loves football, basketball, and soccer while also dabbling in his passion for social media. Taylor has documented his journey with Type 1 Diabetes on his mother’s TikTok account.
On the surface, Ja’Kai’s Air Max 180 design features a black suede overlay detailed by strikes of lightning bolts on the upper. It sits above a sporty gradient of electric green and royal blue while ranslucent icy outsoles are matched with a Jewel Swoosh logo on the upper–a first for the 180 runner.
Ja’Kai adds his namesake on the heel in the iconic typeface introduced by the Air 180, while a large hangtag inspired by soccer crests are included as part of the total package.
The entire Doernbecher Freestyle Collection is currently scheduled to launch on SNKRS on January 25th, 2025 for $150.
