Andrew Rizzo adidas has been targeting gamers through both virtual and tangible products crafted in collaboration with some of today’s most popular franchises. Following a first look at the brand’s Fortnite UltraBOOST capsule the other week, we’re learning that the Three Stripes is liking with mainstream sensation Minecraft on a footwear and apparel collection.
Minecraft is the best-selling video game of all-time, moving over 300 million copies and boasting over 170 million monthly active players as of this writing. The world-building game is known for its rough 3D objects known as “blocks” and has achieved worldwide fame due to its low barrier to entry, appealing to both die-hard gamers as well as casuals looking for an inviting digital escape.
Minecraft doesn’t necessarily have missions, but it does have antagonists. The “Enderman” is one of them; a hostile, black spiker-like creature that can attack players, teleport, and mess up your creations by moving blocks around. If it weren’t already obvious by now, adidas is bringing the creature to life on a Handball Spezial for kids.
The upper is aptly comprised of black suede, allowing focus to lie on the shoe’s special Minecraft-inspired detailing. Pixelated TPU stripes appear on the lateral and medial sides of the shoe, accompanied by screen-printed Minecraft logos in place of “Spezial” branding. The backtab is made to look like an Enderman face with purple “eyes,” as is an added square lace dubrae. Two more purple hits on the tongue round out the upper, while a traditional brown gum sole polishes off the delivery underfoot.
The Minecraft x adidas Handball Spezial “Enderman” doesn’t have a confirmed release date or MSRP yet, but both should become clear as more Minecraft x adidas product emerges over the coming months. As mentioned, the Handball is expected to release exclusively in kid’s sizing.
