Archival styles are all the rage for the Three Stripes. The meteoric success of the adidas Samba was soon followed up by a major push for the adidas SL 72, tapping into that same historic lifestyle lane. It remains to be seen what the apple of the Trefoil’s eye will be as the year plays out, but they’re at least toying around with the same concept, unveiling the adidas Samba 62 build for 2025.
It’s a return to the penultimate Samba design before the 1972 redesign that resulted in the model we now recognize. You can spot the changes immediately on the upper, with a flat leather pull tab stainless steel eyelets and an overall smoother body. Still, the sole is likely the more intriguing portion. A notch at about the midfoot mirrors the overall sectioned midsole design, with a wavy stripe of rubber stretching around the forefoot. Looking from the bottom up, three circular cut-outs echo the “suction cup” traction the model held onto during its earnest on-pitch life.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time that the Samba has reached back to this exact era. Most recently in 2008, adidas printed run of colorways on a similarly archive-minded build of the pitch icon, circular punch-outs and all. In contrast to this modern retake, that ’08 model aimed closer at OG construction, holding onto its boot height and textured leather composition. While that may have been better suited for the historians, there’s no denying that this lifestyle-minded reimagining better befits everyday wear.
The adidas Samba 62 is available now in the “Cloud White” colorway featured throughout this piece — retail is set at $140. Hit our Where To Buy” section just ahead for direct pickup links.
