Andrew Rizzo Comme des Garçons and its affiliates were hard at work at Paris Fashion week, unveiling projects with Nike, ASICS, and for our purposes; New Balance. CDG and Junya Wantanabe will help revive not one, but two models from the New Balance archives as part of their respective FW25 collections, both of which were unveiled in the French capital.
We begin with the New Balance 509; yet another tech runner from the early 2010s that the Boston brand plans to reintroduce to its mainline in 2025. A collaboration with Korean fashion designer Do Hee Kim in late 2024 marked the model’s return, with more third party touch-ups and GRs slated to continue the resurgence over the course of the next twelve months. CDG brings its refined, contemporary ethos to two colorways, both of which are made sleek by leather as opposed to mesh across the base. One colorway lands in all-white, while its counterpart comes decked out in greys for that “dad shoe” aesthetic.

Turning focus to Junya Wantanabe, whose eponymous label has lived under the CDG banner since 1992, the New Balance 471 is the model of focus. The 1970s-born runner is touted in grey and black colorways, although the materials used are slightly different. Both featuee hairy suede overlays, but the black colorway opts for a leather base as opposed to mesh.
