What’s New With The “Black Metallic Reimagined” Jordan 5s
First teased in early 2024, the Air Jordan 5 “Black Metallic Reimagined” is a continuation of Jordan Brand’s Reimagined series which consists of iconic OG colorways with a minor tweak or update. For the Air Jordan 5, the Jumpman kept things rather simple by adding a reflective edge on the upper. Outside of that detail, these Air Jordan 5s are the most accurate replica of the original 1990 version.
Air Jordan 5 “Black Metallic” History
The Air Jordan 5 “Black Metallic” is an original colorway of the AJ5 from 1990. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the model is inspired by the Supermarine Spitfire Mk VIII, a World War II era fighter jet. It’s famous for its oversized tongue while also ushering in reflective detail to the world of sneakers at large.
It first re-released in 2000; this first-time Retro featured Nike Air on the heel. The next such Retro release came in 2007, but with a Jumpman logo on the heel and a “23” embroidered on the rear. That same version dropped again just a few years later in 2011.
Finally, in 2016, Jordan Brand released the Air Jordan 5 “Black Metallic” in its truest form to date; part of the Jumpman’s Remastered efforts to maintain the shape, quality, and materials of the originals, this Air Jordan 5 was celebrated en masse for its proper execution.
