Matt Varga Jordan Brand and Nike collectors will undoubtedly recognize the strategy of putting out just-adjacent product in the wake of high-heat propositions (see the spate of coveted AJ4 colorways making it to the RM). While there are certain plans of action that transcend Beaverton, largely that one has stayed inside the Oregon walls, but perhaps it’s high time that other brands start taking notes. A fresh lime green New Balance 1906R that’s begun cropping up at retailers has us wondering if it’s already happened.
As alluded to in our title, immediately the Salehe Bembury New Balance 530 “Prosperity Be The Prize” is a close comparison point for this shoe, both pairs executing near-identical viridescent tones and hits of off-white and metallic silver, to boot. More than likely, the two designs came together independently from one another, but it’s still interesting to note the intra-brand synergy this shoe shows off. Disregarding that inspo, this continues the increasingly experimental designs that New Balance has rolled out on the 1906R, ditching the techy overtones that defined the model in exchange for more attention-grabbing colorways.
The New Balance 1906R in green/yellow doesn’t have an official release date as of this writing, but select retailers have it queued up for the start of April. Expect a wider NB.com launch sometime that month.
