A few months ago, UnheardOf founder Philip Lipshutz wore his brand’s next adidas collaboration while appearing on the Sneaky Leak Pod, immediately catching our attention with a pink, playful Adistar Cushion 3. Blurry images were all we had to go off, but now the full scope of the collaboration has come into view.
Opinions are subjective, but the “Piggy Runner” might be UnheardOf’s strongest Three Stripes project to date, arriving after multiple Rivalry Low collaborations in 2024. Thoughtful storytelling, clean design, and an ode to UnheardOf’s home of Cincinnati come together in one clean stroke, checking off a lot of boxes in what makes a well-done collaboration.
First and foremost, the sneaker champions self-expression. Consumers are encouraged to embrace traits that may have gotten you “roasted” in school, like young men wearing pink clothing, for example. That “roasted” idea ties in with UnhearOf pig graphics on the tongue, heel, and outsole, inherently nodding to Cincinnati’s long legacy in pork manufacturing. Multiple shades of pink are incorporated into the design, accented by tasteful red hits around the heel. Suede overlays wrap a mesh base, and notably, the stripes feature a unique texture reminiscent of pig hair.
UnheardOf and adidas have been going all-out on marketing in the lead-up, deploying a fleet of Cincinnati city buses wrapped in “Piggy Runner” livery. Moreover, UnheardOf is hosting an interactive sneaker workshop and scavenger hunt for inner city and rural students at the American Signage Museum. The museum will also be the site of an open-to-all launch party (details to come).
