Unquestionably NB’s biggest “get” in the skate realm, it’s only fitting that Andrew Reynolds is the first skater to get a signature shoe under New Balance. Helping to bring new energy to the Numeric sub-brand as it restarted towards the start of the decade, his New Balance 933 represents a worlds-collide moment for both he and the Boston brand.
Immediately, the merger between skate shoe shape and 99x series design language is apparent, exemplified well underfoot with the straight midsole and the off-tone swatch directly under the heel. The layered curvilinear paneling up top compares to the 990v6, 993, and other well-received family members, yet the rounded toe-cap breaks from their principles to ensure the durability standard needed in the sport. Of course, there are plenty more hardware aspects required to create the blend of performance and comfort: ABZORB cushioning, a trademark of many of the brand’s lifestyle offerings, makes its first foray into skating, while N-Durance rubber handles the traction on the outsole.

The links back to the mainline are most evident on the tan and grey edition of the shoe, a suitable choice given how often these earthy shades are explored throughout the New Balance catalog. However, this initial New Balance 933 announcement tips off three additional editions: olive and black, off-white and olive, and all-grey.
The New Balance 933 releases via NewBalance.com on April 28th, retailing for $130. It’s currently unclear which (if not all) of the four colorways shown here will be on tap to debut the model. However, you can view close-up shots of all of them below and keep watch over the 933 via our Sneaker Release Dates page.
