Nike Air Griffey Max 1 “Varsity Royal” To Return In Spring 2026

The Nike Air Griffey Max 1 “Varsity Royal” is expected to return in Spring 2026, Sneaker News reports. Last dropping in 2021, this popular colorway of Ken Griffey Jr.’s debut signature shoe is expected to make a comeback next Spring/Summer in Adult and GS sizes.

With the sweetest swing in the game and an on-field style that captivated fans, Ken Griffey Jr. was one Major League Baseball’s most popular players of the era, and perhaps of all-time. Nike was heavy into the turf/field footwear in the 1990s, delivering signature models for athletes across all sports that rivaled basketball shoes in popularity. The original Griffeys were definitely among the most coveted at the time thanks to a full-length Air Max unit, high-cut ankle strap, and bold Swoosh hit at the toe; it often crossed sport lines as NFL athletes were known to wear the shoes on turf.

While we know that the Varsity Royal/Volt/Black is to be expected, it’s unclear if we should expect any modifications to the Air bubble. As you already know, Nike revamped the Air Max 95 by reverting back to the more voluminous Air unit with the visible seam. It’s unclear if the 2026 Air Griffey Max 1 went through the same refresh.

We do know that the MSRP for the adult pair, compared to the 2021 release, remains at $170. This suggests that these are a mere re-print and no changes are to be expected. GS sizes are also confirmed to return at $120, which is surprisingly a $20 decrease from 2021.

In more contemporary updates, Nike is set to drop the Air Max 270 MLB City Connect Pack soon.
