Today, there are collaborations with Levi’s and Denham that bring the rugged fabric to the footwear forefront, and it’s rather common to see in in-line products season after season. But there was a time when denim-covered Nikes and Jordans were a rare treat, making them truly stand out and mark a moment in time.
We’re specifically recalling a pair of Nike SB Dunks designed by former Nike SB rider and current real estate agent Reese Forbes, the DC-area based skater who was responsible for some of the most sought-after pink-box Dunks in history. His pair featured the purely American material in two-toned placement with a red outsole, complete with frayed edges for that casual shirt and jeans look. This upcoming Dunk Low only reminds us of that peak era of Dunk when each and every pair, from super-limited collab down to the in-store general release had its own backstory.
Nike is taking a similar approach with this upcoming release, pairing up a Smokey Blue and Denim Turquoise on a twill upper with a light-colored Swoosh and outsole for an even more casual appearance. These are hitting stores soon for $125, where as the Reese Forbes pair will command upwards of $5,000, so maybe these 2025 version are the better buy.
