Even as the calendar switched over and the debut of models like the New Balance 1906L receded into the past, the “sneaker loafer” has remained a hot topic throughout 2025. After notable flare-ups in the conversation by way of Converse and HOKA, Jordan Brand is now getting in on the action, pushing the envelope with their loafer mule in a way that only Beaverton can.
To date, many of the takes on the mashup prompt have kept to overall simplistic scripts, reforming already-established models with surgical swaps to better befit formalwear. On the contrary, the Jordan Brand product at hand is an entirely new design in their lineage, chopping the back off an all-leather configuration up top and tying to traditional loafers with a strapped and bangled forefoot design.
Adding to the frankly bizarre profile is a multi-stack platform sole underfoot, delivering lugged traction at the very bottom before working through several plies of molded rubber further up. In fact, it’s in the traction where you’ll find one of the only references back to the mainline: the traction pattern is a blown-up version of the same one you’ll find on any Air Jordan 1.
Dedicated fans of the brand will remember that this isn’t the first time in recent months that the Jumpman has alluded to high fashion, already utilizing those aesthetics with the Air Jordan 1 Method of Make. Further, this speaks to an increasing willingness for JB to step out of their usual lane, already demonstrated this year with steps into new verticals like the Jordan CMFT Era walking shoe and novel inventions like their recovery slide.
Whether this model will find similar success is TBD, as are release details for this model. Generally, expect the Jordan loafer mule to hit shelves in the coming months, landing as a women’s exclusive with a $140 price tag.
