After Bode Collabs, The Nike Astrograbber Is Ready For Its Next Play

Nike has been dropping constant references to a far simpler time period in recent years, way before their globe-spanning empire took hold and closer to when Bill Bowerman was putting together primordial concoctions to help track athletes shave off the seconds. By reviving silhouettes like the Field General and Waffle Trainer (as the LD-1000), the Swoosh has sought to tap into lowkey, retro sensibilities by leveraging their vaunted back catalog.

While collaborations with Union and Stussy unsurprisingly heralded mainline bring-backs for those silhouettes, it was unclear whether two chapters of Bode x Nike would actually predate an Astrograbber retro, but retailer images of exactly that have just touched down. Sharing a similar origin story to the Field General, the Astrograbber hit the market essentially with the tooling of its title, aimed at gridiron footballers for increased traction on then-nascent Astro Turf surfaces.

In this new life, the rectangular traction underfoot remains as the true tie back to its OG composition, instead leaning on a modernized composition with a straight sole, angular lace-stay, and flat sidewalls. Two color options define this introductory salvo, one in cleaned-up black on yellow, and one perhaps tying back to its most famous endorser, Dan Fouts, in Chargers-style light blue and yellow. These mainline editions of the Nike Astrograbber are due out on July 25th, retailing at $130 a piece.
