Nike Nods To The Beautiful Azulejo Ceramics Of Lisboa With The Air Max Plus

In Europe, there are few, if any, that can compete with the Air Max Plus. An iconic figment of shoe culture and street fashion, the Tuned Air legend continues to stay strong in 2025 off the strength of Europe’s adoration of the silhouette. Portugal, in particular, has helped kept that legacy alive and strong, and so Nike is turning back the favor by creating a special edition release tied to a historically significant art form of its capital city.

The Air Max Plus “Lisboa” arrives with ornate patterns across the entire mesh upper of the sporty runner. These decorations are a nod to azuleho, a form of Portuguese painted tin-glazed ceramic tilework. This craft dates back centuries and has since become one of Lisbon’s prized contributions to global culture and the arts.

In addition to the beautiful pattern, Nike adds a tiled pattern beneath the soles, viewable through the translucent rubber gum bottoms. “Lisboa” is texted onto the tongue while a nod to the flag of Lisbon appears on the jewel logo above (the Swoosh replaces the coat of arms.

A release date for the Air Max Plus “Lisboa” has not been revealed just yet, but it is possible that these are exclusive to Portugal. Stay tuned for details.
