In the time since, propositions like the New Balance 2000 outrank the aughts model in terms of its separation from “default” silhouettes, but it’s done an admirable job of carving out its own lane in its retro effort.
Even if it helped bring new energy into the roster, the New Balance 1000 isn’t above recognizing that hits are hits for a reason. Having explored “Grey Day” aesthetics plenty in its year-and-change on the shelves, it circles back to monochromatic fare in this “White/Grey” edition, clearly tooled as a daily driver with slight pops of steel atop an otherwise white foundation. A third running mate enters with an all-black outsole, but the comprehensive brightened profile and subtle faux-aged tint here pins this colorway as a way to inject some trendy appeal into a wide range of applications.
