Matt Varga When the initial, widely-mocked renders of the protagonist touched down, would anyone have predicted that the Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise would become a billion dollar enterprise? Each of the three movies to date has made gains over its predecessor at the box office, no doubt a forebear in the current wave of console-to-silver-screen pipeline seen throughout the industry.
With that commercial success comes merchandise, and Sonic the Hedgehog looks to a previous partner in PUMA to check off a footwear foray. Indeed, though it predated the hedgehog’s resurgence, Eggman and Sonic imbued the PUMA RS-02 in 2018. Two of the Big Cat’s modern icons are instead in the spotlight here, with the protagonist getting a cerulean cover-all of the PUMA Inhale, replete with light blue collar detailing and profile charms down the eyelets. Additionally, as the below images would indicate, wearers can customize with detachable, gradient Formstrips and lace shields.
The collection’s back half instead focuses on the chunky PUMA Inverse, its layered composition and aggressive design language aligning particular well with Shadow’s pair. That’s to say nothing of Tails’, absolutely a sunnier edition but creating a comprehensive profile with the golden ring lace lock that also crops up in all three editions.
The Sonic the Hedgehog x PUMA collection is expected to touch down on October 30th. Though only grade school pairs are depicted below, full family sizing will be on tap for at least the “Sonic” colorway.
