Matt Varga You can’t divorce Kiko Kostadinov from ASICS’ rise back to the fore of footwear, his off-the-wall takes on the Japanese giant’s storied archives helping the brand capture the imagination of the fashion-forward. The Bulgarian designer has rightfully only rised in prominence within the company’s walls in the years since, now letting loose a pretty constant stream of new product across a variety of models. Now, he’s circling back to rather recent history, introducing the ASICS UB11-S GEL-DS Trainer 14 for his second overall take on the silhouette.
On top of being an aesthetic left turn from Kostadinov’s typical vibrant fare, it’s a divergence from what he’s already done on the GEL-DS Trainer 14, helping usher the silhouette into the mainline with the UB9-S GEL-DS Trainer 14. While the overall shape and tooling remains intact for this UB11-S variation, there are some notable compositional changes; a ridged forefoot plate is replaced with a depressed honeycomb section and the base mesh swaps to a far tighter arrangement. A Neapolitan-style “Coneflower/Black Coffee” and “Graphite Grey/Oyster” are on tap to introduce this silhouette.
Either look for the Kiko Kostadinov Studio x ASICS UB11-S GEL-DS Trainer 14 is set drop on August 28th. Retail pricing is unclear at the time of this writing, but we’ll keep this pots and our Sneaker Release Dates up to date with the latest info as it comes.
