Matt Varga “Tech runners” remain one of the most bustling categories in footwear, something that’s propelled nearly every brand to dig into their archives and return with their hottest silhouettes of the aughts in attempts to gobble up more of the ever-valuable market share. The Three Stripes is casting another lot in that vein with the adidas Adistar Control 5, and enlisting a familiar face as it steps into the fore.
Though it’s started appearing at retailers in the past few months, this is no doubt the biggest spotlight that the Adistar Control 5 has recieved to date, unabashedly pushing throwback aesthetics with the chrome overlays, a closed-knit mesh, and dense geometry. adiPrene cushioning underfoot, plush protrusions on the tongue, and a cubic pattern in the midsole stand as some of the early defining features as this shoe surfaces anew. For their part, Sporty and Rich doesn’t reinvent the wheel, maintaining the throwback appeal while pinning trademark viridescent tones on a white/teal and silver/teal.
