Matt Varga BAPE and adidas are back at it again. With the World Cup on the horizon and soccer aesthetics still running rampant through the footwear industry, the Three Stripes is helping induct the Japanese streetwear mainstay into the world of footy. Following a reveal of actual cleats, the BAPE adidas Samba now surfaces as a natural addition to the festivities.
Immediately evident at first glance is how adidas again allows BAPE some real creative freedom, pinning the STAR graphic on the lateral sides while maintaining the Three Stripes on the opposite side. Further, the typical suede T-toe is revamped into a rubber counterpart for these two opposing colorways, fitted with the SKULL STA pattern derived from the BAPE silhouette of the same name. Possibly to ground those transformative changes, either look leans on the well-established history of the Samba, splaying this twisted silhouette in classic white/gum and black/gum.
