Now, Grace Wales Bonner has turned her talents to the revolutionary signature basketball shoe by adidas, ushering in her oft-copied design touch that has yet to be executed properly elsewhere. Her first-ever adidas Jabbar design is an homage to both the legendary basketball player, actor, and activist, drawing on classic LA Laker colors in a unique format that includes a full-suede upper, croc-skin applications on the three stripes, and a half shell-toe.
But this collab isn’t just about Wales Bonner. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s sky-hook is made the champion as the logo of the legend’s signature (and unstoppable) move is placed on the insole above the brand and designer logo lock-up. There’s also a full apparel set that includes a track jacket, track pants, tank top, and short, with the capsule itself an homage to Abdul-Jabbar’s career beyond the hardwood. There’s a lot of that going around lately around the Jabbar; even the recent Bruce Lee adidas Jabbar has been gaining firm traction ahead of its mid-September drop.
