Matt Varga In a plot beat that you’ll be able to find plenty over the past decade, the adidas Intimidation was already back in the public consciousness due to the efforts of Kanye West, utilizing the throwback basketball shoe for the platform of his 500 model. While their efforts since haven’t been on the level of the adidas Superstar or other ubiquitous models, the Three Stripes has done their own inline legwork in bolstering the silhouette post-Ye.
A new retro effort began populating the adidas catalog in about March of this year, and scattered collaborations have been hitting the newswire since around two years earlier. Yet as colder weather looms, it’s that shift that brings the most transformative makeover of the Feet Year Wear silhouette we’ve seen yet. The general contours of the model – including its gridded, wavy sole unit – remain in place, but there’s a ton of changes within those outlines. The most evident is changing a traditional lacing system for a fabric elastic foot entrance, holding up the “slip on” promise included in our title. Additionally, the raised TPU cages on the side now shift into flush leather, wearing cut-outs in the space between to create that same impact. Naturally, the same “Triple Black” aesthetics that have graced the parent model make an appearance here, but a more experimental beige/black/neon green is also on tap to help bring this remodel to market.
