If you’ve been eager to get your hands on the Nike SB Dunk Low “Krampus” previewed earlier this year, it appears you won’t have to wait much longer – the sneaker has already begun landing at skate shops overseas.
If you’re not familiar, Krampus is a horned, demonic figure from Central European folklore who punishes misbehaving children during the Christmas season, acting as a dark counterpart to Saint Nicholas (or Santa Claus). Nike SB has released “Krampus” Dunks before, dropping a high-top in 2012 featuring faux pony hair and insoles depicting Krampus and Santa duking it out, drawn by Sean Cliver.
This year’s Nike SB Dunk Low takes a different direction with a design inspired by coal — that of course being what “naughty” kids get in their stockings on Christmas. A cracked black leather upper with burnt orange edges (to evoke glowing embers) sets the tone, while the midsole is treated with a matching weathered finish. The insoles feature a coal-inspired print and a graphic of a snickering Krampus at the heel of the right shoe. As one last Easter egg, the bottom of the Zoom Air pods reveal a lump of coal and a “Naughty List” featuring names likely tied to the creation of the shoes. To cap it off, Nike SB also includes a present-inspired hangtag featuring the same Krampus graphic seen on the insoles.
The “Krampus” Dunks are expected to launch in November/December, but as mentioned, pairs are already arriving at skate shops overseas. Stay tuned for further updates in the coming weeks.
