Solely in terms of what they’ve already accomplished, Wales Bonner, Pharrell Williams, and Bad Bunny are pretty squarely the podium players when it comes to adidas collaborators. However, if we’re to stack up a “next three,” Willy Chavarria unquestionably is in the mix, given the red-carpet treatment as he’s worked through his introductory capsules under the Three Stripes.

His most significant moment to date was his pointed revamp of the adidas Jabbar Lo, yet the California-born designer has quickly spread beyond that archival shoe. Sticking in the realm of basketball, the Willy Chavarria x adidas Forum ’84 Hi lands as his next experiment, kitting the storied model with a nocturnal black and red colorway.

Though the front of the shoe remains largely untouched, Chavarria remodels its back half — leveling out the strap, adding a new sectioned heel counter, and overall switching the paneling in that section. Otherwise, the collaborative air with this shoe comes from heightened materiality and the aforementioned stealthy color combination, particularly effective with the “Chavarria”-branded strap and tongue.
