adidas Adds A Bold Platform Sole On The Women’s Superstar

We’ve noted on countless occasions how the sneaker industry is increasingly tilting toward the ladies, unleashing an endless wave of new product specifically tailored as women’s exclusives. On adidas’ side of things, their “Bold” subseries has been their primary platform to do exactly that, already spreading the exaggerated soles that beget that title onto staples like the Forum, Gazelle, and Court.

As the year-long fixation on the adidas Superstar marches on, the shell-toe silhouette is the latest to enter that product family. In contrast to some of the aforementioned takes on the concept, the adidas Superstar Bold doesn’t simply multiply its sole unit to achieve statement height. Instead, it’s a brand new segmented platform that affixes onto the base composition, pasted atop the usual cup sole with wavy contours and a TPU build, extending through that iconic toebox. To bolster its new hardware choices, the uppers shift into bedazzled territory, offering glimmering detailing within the bounds of the classic white-on-black colorway.

Pairing this new entrant alongside competitor models like the Jordan 1 “Triple Stack,” we’d be remiss not to note how much of the women’s sneakers category is taken up by kicks like this. Part of what’s made this new wave of female-driven design so exciting is how brands have ushered in genuinely boundary-pushing offerings rather than simple retreatments of staid silhouettes. While we can give credit for going a bit out of bounds for the Superstar Bold, nonetheless, this does feel of a piece with some of the more box-checking efforts that predated this renewed industry-wide push.

All the same, if the adidas Superstar Bold has caught your eye, look out for this revamped edition hitting adidas.com sometime in the coming weeks. Retail pricing isn’t confirmed at this juncture, but a slight premium on base Superstar pricing is all but guaranteed.
