Sneaker collaborations with food brands often look gimmicky. These Lay’s Sauconys, however, look every bit as delicious as their inspiration.
Made exclusively for the Chinese market, Saucony has teamed up with the iconic potato chip brand on a trio of sneakers inspired by regional flavors. Not only are the chips unique to the East, but the models they’re paired with are as well.
Leading the pack is a Saucony Cohesion 2K inspired by seaweed, featuring grey mesh and suede with multiple green accent shades, most notably on the Saucony logos. Next is the Saucony Grid Fusion in a style inspired by spicy crayfish, a hugely popular Chinese dish cooked in chili pepper and peppercorn sauce. Brown suede pairs with darker brown mesh along the base, finished off with beige on the lining and midsole.
The third and final sneaker doesn’t appear to reference a flavor but instead the classic yellow Lay’s bag itself. The Saucony Trainer 80X, a more layered take on the brand’s classic Trainer 80 silhouette, arrives in all-yellow leather and suede atop gum soles. The Grid Fusion and 80X feature Lay’s logos on the tongue, while the Cohesion 2K comes with custom lace dubraes. All three pairs are accompanied by bag-shaped hangtags and special packaging.
Again, the Saucony x Lay’s collab is exclusive to China. If you are outside the region and set on copping, the aftermarket will be your best bet.
