Andrew Rizzo As the NBA home of one of the most important figures in the history of Nike Basketball, it makes sense that Nike is going all out for NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles next month. The game itself takes place at the home of the Clippers (the Intuit Dome), but earlier events are happening up Prairie Ave at The Forum, the former home of the Lakers and the place where one Kobe Bryant began his road to worldwide stardom.
On top of the return of the Kobe 6 “All-Star 3D” in Protro form, Nike will celebrate All-Star Weekend with a “City Of Champions” set consisting of Kobe 1 Protro and Air Force 1 Protro styles. The Air Force 1 features Work Blue corduroy and a cracked leather Swoosh inspired by The Forum’s iconic blue exterior, or at least how it looked back when the Lakers played there. Kobe sheaths appear on the tongue tags, backtab, and insoles alongside a map of Inglewood showing The Forum’s location. The inner tongue reads 67–99, nodding to the years the Lakers played there after moving from Minneapolis. ReactX insoles make for a more comfortable, cushioned ride, while glow-in-the-dark outsoles tie in with The Forum’s illuminating facade lights.
The Kobe Bryant Air Force 1 Low Protro “City Of Champions” doesn’t have a concrete release date yet, but an All-Star Weekend drop is the prevailing notion as of now (meaning sometime between February 13th and 15th). See official images below and stay tuned for more updates.
