Caitlin Clark will soon ring in her third WNBA season in May, and about a day before this writing, she rang in her 24th birthday. Her junior year in the W is already one we’re intently watching, expected to be her first wearing the ostensible Nike Caitlin Clark 1. However, the Iowa product remains a Kobe girl through and through, and as her squad lit candles for her solar rotation, she pulled out a never-before-seen edition of the Kobe 6.
We’re left to analyze shaky still shots pulled from this video, but what we gather is a nocturnal pair, built of black synthetic uppers, deep blue trim, and volt green accenting within the Swoosh and outsoles. Despite the difference in accent shades, we’re seeing hints of the “Joker” / “Chaos” series that hit the V and VI during Kobe’s original signature run. To our eyes, this clocks in closest to the 2K20 “Alternate” Chaos minted on the Kobe 5, though the neon green palette was a frequent sighting within the Mamba’s line; several Venomenon releases are also comparison points.
Considering that Caitlin Clark’s name has been the most significant overall driver of collaborative Kobes in the past year and change (sorry, Jalen — it’s true), with her Kobe 5 “Rookie in the Year” in the works for the opening half of this year, we can’t rule out an eventual release. However, we’d almost assuredly have to see these in-game for that narrative to move forward.
For now, catch the Fever’s surprise and Caitlin’s new PE within the embedded video below.
