Yes, news of the Song for the Mute adidas Samba or final Post Archive Faction On link-up may be red meat in our corner of the world, but when it comes to the general public, it really is hard to get more important than Vans x SZA.
Ever since being announced as the California company’s artistic director, we’ve been waiting with bated breath to see how they’d leverage her overall talents and star power for actual product; to date, all we’d seen was a photoshoot promoting the Knu Skool and other in-line product. As part of a meet-and-greet opportunity at Vans’ Paris flagship, we finally got that long-awaited first look, as the Grammy winner tossed out a few samples of the inaugural VANSZA design. It’s a piscine overhaul of the Authentic, coated heel-to-toe in a varied fish pattern, potentially linking to the singer’s erstwhile “CTRL Fishing Company.”
We’re taking special notice of the fact that SZA cited these as “samples” rather than simply giveaway pairs; that may be an indication that the official launch is still a ways off. For now, check out some action shots from the event below.
