Most brands would be content with a release as tide-shifting as the Fragment Union Jordan 1. Simply put, Fragment Design isn’t most brands. As that Jumpman release begins its rollout, Hiroshi Fujiwara simultaneously kicks things up on the Swoosh end of things, as first looks at the Fragment Design x Nike Book 2 have hit social media.

Refined style is the broad-strokes prompt, executed with a stealthy overall build that utilizes new nylon materiality in the Book 2 upper (compare that to the suede of the “Rising,” the chunky synthetics of the “Phoenix,” or the mesh of the “Spiridon”). The palette belies a true standout compositional note in alternating white and blue Swooshes, while a heavy dose of co-branding defines this shoe, from the lightning-struck “BOOK” brand on the tongue to the exposed product information on the midsole. Of the many headline-making exclusives that appeared in the Book 1 story, a snakeskin Fragment design was arguably the high point, crafted in extremely limited quantities and sported by both Devin and Hiroshi Fujiwara. The relationship with the legendary designer and Nike partner seemingly only grew stronger from there, as evidenced by this new development. Overall, this marks a somewhat rare occurrence in a collaboration on a flagship Nike signature shoe; the KITH LeBron 17, Sabrina Ionescu’s relationship with Titan, and the recent drumbeat of Kobe x Soccer link-ups present as comps, but Fragment is obviously of a higher star caliber.
