New Balance’s Deconstructed 1906A Takes A Classic Turn

A return to earthy hues.

New Balance’s Deconstructed 1906A Takes A Classic Turn

New Balance’s roster is ever shifting shape; just when we thought their overtunes to the fashion-forward were filled by the 1906L or 204L, in comes the Gator Run to buck expectations once again. With the original 1906 model platform surprisingly making a comeback via the New Balance 1890 (and 1890A), still the “restored” model looms the largest over the catalog as a whole.

The 1906R has now developed into nearly half a dozen offshoot efforts, from the aforementioned loafer to an upcoming 1906F build that’s yet to see the market yet. Despite playing a background role to this point, the New Balance 1906A is one of the more creatively challenging, adding unfinished edges to its overlays, extending its N-lock branding, and ruffling its laces for an industrial edge on the reliable tech runner. In truth, that descriptor is particularly fitting for this colorway; it’s one that easily could’ve met the parent model, and thus grounds this shoe as a whole despite the more experimental compositional notes.

The New Balance 1906A “Thunder Brown” has already started populating overseas outlets, so a stateside drop is likely just a matter of time. Be ready for a $170 retail price upon arrival.
