No longer are treadmills and weight machines your only option to tone up. The genre of cross-category exercise has absolutely exploded this century, surely making its biggest impact as the CrossFit movement became inescapable, but also branching into additional disciplines like HYROX or ATHX, disciplines with a particular focus on endurance and weight training.

Given that both strength and speed are in focus for any “hybrid athlete,” you can rationally understand that the footwear demands place those folks in a sort of middle ground; traditional “lifting” shoes are slim in their soles for stability, while cutting-edge racing gear has trended towards chunkier and taller soles in recent years. The adidas Dropset Elite, set to release on May 15th, leverages adi’s best in either world for a specific piece of equipment.

The sky-high stack of the adiZero line and its thinned-out uppers are immediately evident, while the Dropset line imbues Footadapt tech in the sockliner. Beyond that, Continental rubber in a thin, flattened traction pattern and Energy Rim tech around the collar allow for further confidence when making the frequent station transitions demanded of the genre’s best.

HYROX specialists like Graham Halliday and Fabian Eisenlauer, as well as faces from the world of CrossFit like Ella Wilkinson and Jennifer Muir, are included in the Dropset Elite’s cast of testimonials already, with two-time world champ Tim Wenisch sharing of the shoe: “I feel fast, stable, and in control. The adidas Dropset Elite releases on March 18th in global markets before making landfall on May 15th stateside. In the US, retail is set at $275.
