New Balance has taken that concept one step further; their willingness to tinker in the margins of their best-sellers sometimes results in fresh builds hitting their site with nearly no preamble. Though it makes for some surprises for us, it’s certainly a testament to how this is an overall ethos rather than concerted one-off efforts.
One of the newer to market is the New Balance 9060 Z, a spin on everyone’s favorite chunky runner. It’s perhaps best understood in the context of its predecessor, the New Balance 9060X, which upended the typical suede and mesh build with pronounced synthetic cages. The Z cuts the opposite way, slimming down the shoe with no-sew overlays while still maintaining the futuristic lean of the step before it.
Two new colorway options have come to light as the shoe continues to make its presence felt, doubling down on that technological air in darkened palettes. One leans on the everlasting “Bred” combo, creating a menacing look with red trim atop a blacked-out base. The other wears a cybernetic swap on that same layout, pinning hi-tech green on their beloved grey.
The New Balance 9060 Z in grey/green and black/red is beginning to hit global New Balance channels, likely indicating a stateside launch isn’t too far behind.
