As if being one of the most recognizable and influential video game franchises in human history wasn’t enough, Mario has yahoo-ed onto the silver screen in the past few years. The original Super Mario Bros movie was an instant sensation, proving crossover potential in a way that John Leguizamo’s original effort may have not, and the Galaxy-spanning sequel has only built on that foundation. Like we’ve already seen with Spider-Man and The Mandalorian and Grogu, nothing pairs with commemorative popcorn buckets quite like a link-up with Crocs. Though The Super Mario Galaxy Movie‘s theatrical run is in the rear view at this point, Nintendo takes a stab at adapting its foremost characters onto the ever-popular slip-on style.
For most of this capsule, game-accurate style takes center stage, with the classical illustrations of Mario, Bowser, Peach, and Yoshi influencing attachable Jibbitz charms. As for the shoes themselves, Mario, Bowser, and Yoshi all spin their iconic design hallmarks onto the TPU; the plumber plops a fuzzy “M” cap onto the midfoot, Bowser’s spikes live on top of the toe and the strap, and Yoshi’s shell and eggs influence white/brown trim. For those keeping score at home, that leaves Princess Peach as the odd woman out. She breaks from her friends and foe by reaching for the Platform Clog, still replete with frilly collar details and a gem-laden crown pattern on the strap.
The Super Mario Bros x Crocs collection releases on July 15th; adult prices range from $70 to $85. The Super Mario Classic Clog in light blue will also be arriving in kids’ and toddler sizing.
