After briefly exploring a retro for the original tech-forward silhouette in the late 2010s, that product name became a buzzy one once again in 2024, when images of the 3D-printed adidas Climacool hit the timeline and brought with it a ton of renewed attention. That futuristic branch is set to usher in new faces in the coming months, but once again, the World Cup provides an opportunity for a brand new product showcase.
The Three Stripes has now pulled back the curtain on the “Climacool System,” a new branch of mid-game recovery tech that’ll be covering athletes from head to toe. Originally honed within motorsports, where high temperatures mean even more strenuous cooldown demands, the FIFA showcase being set in American, Mexican, and Canadian summer provides a crossover opportunity.
For the wearables, it’s a two-pronged approach; a cooling vest contains a gel meant to be frozen before use. That transfers over to the wearer, while a “shell” jacket with insulating aspects protects it from the outside conditions. As always, our eyes are particularly fixed on the footwear aspect, however. The same gel is embedded into the Climacool Overshoe, meant to be zipped over football boots and said to reduce foot temps by 2 degrees C within a span of seven minutes.
All the World Cup participants under adidas’ banner will be provided with the Climacool System, so check the sidelines in the coming weeks to get a look at this innovation. When, or whether this will be coming to the public hasn’t been announced just yet.
