Andrew Rizzo One of the many fun parts of sneaker journalism is unpacking the hidden inspiration behind unassuming GRs, and the Nike Air Force 1 often offers plenty to dissect. Here we have a new “University Red” colorway we think might be inspired by playing cards, landing July 1st via Nike and retailers.
The biggest hint, as is often the case, is in the branding. The heel features a black diamond with white Nike text in the center, ambiguous on its own but unmistakably casino-coded when considered with the playing card-esque black and University Red colorway. The tongue, meanwhile, sports script Nike branding within a black square. University Red leather covers the toe, heel, and eyelets, complemented by black hits on the Swoosh and outsole. The quarter is also noteworthy, appearing in Sail with black piping.
