For most, the Air Jordan 3 “True Blue” is a sneaker that needs no introduction. Conceived by Tinker Hatfield as part of the model’s original 1988 run, this colorway has stood as one of the most iconic and beloved Jordans in the entire lineage for decades. MJ first wore the shoe during an exhibition game against the Men’s USA Olympic Basketball team the year it released. He later wore a Jordan 3 “Wizards” PE inspired by the OG colorway near the twilight of his career, that style coinciding with the first “True Blue” retro in 2001. Now a full decade removed from the shoe’s last retro in 2016, the time is ripe for another go-around.
As for how this edition compares to past retros, purists have reason to celebrate. The 2026 Jordan 3 “True Blue” is the most accurate 1988 re-creation to date, featuring Nike Air branding at the heel and a vintage shape to match. The elephant print on the toe and heel also appears finer, more in line with the pattern’s earliest appearances. Also worth noting is the tongue, sporting a rolled leather edge that conceals the Fire Red coloring on the inside, a subtle detail that true aficionados are bound to appreciate.
