The further we get into the wave, the more it seems like we’ll look back at the 2020s in footwear as the era of the retro runner. While typically, a trend like that, especially one so baked in nostalgia, would have a far shorter shelf life, the bring-backs have continued apace; Nike is (re)introducing the Zoom Streak 11, Saucony just dusted off the ProGrid Ride 1, and adidas’ adiStar Control series is still bringing in new faces.

ASICS may not make the headlines in the same way, but it remains a massive beneficiary and driver of that style, more content with issuing new palette swaps on its sturdy stable of tech-runner styles. The GEL-Nimbus 10.1 remains a sensible option and may just be getting ahead of next season’s style with its latest, a “Cocoa Powder”-flooded edition. Though a chrome heel cup sticks to the Y2K hallmarks that have made it a steady presence, subtler, trendier tonality overcomes the rest of the real estate.
