Some Jordan Retro colorways are steeped in the history of the game, either worn on the court for iconic moments in MJ’s career or pulled from the peripherals around them. Some Jordan Retro colorways allow the silhouettes to let their hair down. The Air Jordan 3 “Sports Renaissance” comfortably fills that second bucket. Of course, the first indication to that point comes with the mismatched colorway, utilizing sporty red and blue around joined navy foundations.
Yet there’s more than meets the eye, as some real material mix-ups demonstrate in the shoe’s finer details. The usual perforated leather collar and eyestays are replaced by jersey-style mesh, while the tongue utilizes ruched elastic materials to further hone the idea of game-day style. Finally, flat leather replaces the elephant print sections, typically a vaunted hallmark of the AJ3 that gets a refresh in this variation. If the women’s-exclusive sizing didn’t already tip it off, Nike’s styling in their official image suite indicates that the creative team had the fashionable in mind, as double lacing options allow for even more character to come to this expressive shoe.
