We’ve given plenty of burn to the New Balance 2011, developed with KITH’s Ronnie Fieg, and the New Balance 2811, crafted by Mr. Action Bronson, but fair’s fair. ASICS has pioneered that co-designed concept, already with one of the aforementioned individuals in the GEL Kayano 12.1, and additionally with the help of AWAKE’s Angelo Baque in the ASICS GEL-NYC.

Even if it’s seen several offshoots like the 2055 and the Utility, still the base composition trots on as a solid pillar in the Japanese giant’s roster. There’s still room for experimentation, too, as this “Antique Red” edition clearly demonstrates. Breaking from its usual mesh and suede arrangement, this pair dabbles in patent leather, already an unexpected choice for the company overall, let alone this specific silhouette. It certainly helps imbue this colorway with a lot more edge and attitude, overall aligning with the Y2K aesthetic the GEL-NYC majors in.
