The New Balance 983 Adds A Classic Grey Colorway

The kicks keep coming and they don’t stop coming out of New Balance. Butting up right to the edge of “too much, too soon,” the Boston brand has been churning out new silhouettes in absolutely every vertical possible throughout 2026; in performance with the Ellipse, in retro running with the 1890, in basketball with the P350, even in co-designed signatures with Action Bronson’s 2811 and Ronnie Fieg’s 2011. Unexpectedly, the New Balance 9060 is set to gain a sibling as the New Balance 983 begins to emerge.

While not officially positioned by New Balance themselves as such, the 983 is immediately pparent as a new spin on the chunky, wonky, woozy aesthetics of the hybrid runner. Truly, the 9060 has been a watershed model for the brand, still such a frequent sight on sidewalks even if its time as a resale darling has now concluded.

Refreshing that energy, the New Balance 983 carries a similarly layered, contoured geometry in its sole unit, with three ABZORB pods sitting sandwiched within a dual-density midsole. Contrasting the techy blue pair that we first spotted the silhouette in, here the shoe takes on more traditional NB aesthetics by mixing up various shades of grey with new suede materiality on the topmost overlays.

The New Balance 983 in this grey colorway will also be releasing on October 1st, aligning with the Coco Gauff-worn “Shadow Blue” colorway that you may have caught on our front page of late. A $160 remains for this neutral counterpart.
