Andrew Rizzo Weird has never been cooler, something true in culture at large as much as in the footwear world. Nothing epitomizes that better than the rise of loafer hybrids in recent years, maybe more of an online trend by brands wanting to go viral than an organic street movement, granted, but still a movement significant enough to have left its mark on the current era of footwear.
The latest loafer hybrid comes courtesy of Crocs and German retailer Solebox, here presenting a reworked Echo II that trades the clog’s usual shell for the upper of a loafer. A premium black leather upper sets the stage, decorated by other ornamental loafer cues like a black leather forefoot strap, a removable tassel, and polished metal hardware.
For the campaign, Solebox looks back on the days when you could get your shoes polished while getting a haircut, a beloved yet dying tradition offered by only a small percentage of barbershops still in business today. Solebox will be hosting a release event at its Berlin store featuring a fully operating, free-of-charge barbershop in cooperation with Black Excellence Boutique.
