Matt Varga Dominance in the tech runner wave of this decade hasn’t kept any brand from iterating on their offerings. New Balance is still printing money with the 9060, but they’ve developed the 1954R, 1890, and 880 to bracket that chunky style. Similarly, Nike is still seeing the Vomero 5 get plenty of burn on the streets, yet with styles like the Air Max Moto or V5 RNR, are nonetheless dedicating resources to giving consumers new options.
Beyond simply offering an alternate throwback look, the V5 RNR additionally carries a far more accessible price point, something that Nike has sought to capitalize on with a massive stream of colorway options since its debut. While we await its real close-up moment with the Whitaker Group V5 RNR, some general releases are still plenty impressive, like the “Pencil Point/College Grey” variation here. A dusky overall profile is achieved with dueling neutrals, from deep greys on the midsole to stealthy aquatics in the sole unit.
The Nike V5 RNR “Pencil Point/College Grey” should be coming to Nike.com soon enough with a $95 retail price.
