Following the return of the “Powder Blue” and “Olive” 9s in 2024, the next few seasons will see Jordan Brand deploy the other half of the model’s 1994 lookbook. Next up are the “Playoffs” aka “Space Jam” 9s on September 19th, something of an appetizer for the “Space Jam” 11s later this year. Sneaker Files and zSneakerHeadz now report that the seldom-seen Air Jordan 9 “Charcoal” will complete the quartet with a Fall 2027 return.
No images have hit the internet yet, but we’ve already got some important news to discuss. The sneaker will reportedly feature an updated shape more in line with the original 1994 silhouette, not unlike what Jordan Brand has done with models like the Jordan 3 and Jordan 4. The 2027 edition marks just the shoe’s second retro, its first coming in 2010. Expect the true original colorway with a “Black/Dark Charcoal/True Red” palette and durabuck-like uppers.
Like the other three original Air Jordan 9 colorways, the “Charcoal” 9s are an outlier for the fact that MJ never wore the shoe in an NBA game, as he was off playing baseball at the time. He did lace up baseball cleat versions of the model, and would later wear the “Cool Grey” 9s as a member of the Washington Wizards during the model’s first retro run.
The “Charcoal” 9s are due out Fall 2027 via Nike SNKRS and select retailers, meaning sometime between next July and September. Check out detailed images of the 2010 edition below to refresh your memory.
