Andrew Rizzo The second installment of Brain Child’s Reebok DMX Series 3000 “Nebula” series is ready for launch. Following the “Red Nebula” from earlier this year, the black midsole-equipped “Blue Nebula” releases September 25th exclusively through the Brain Child website.
First and foremost is a design reference buried deep in the Reebok Archive in Boston, one that blends past cues from the Reebok DMX trainer line with the modern DMX Series 3000 silhouette.
“The Blue Nebula design process was an opportunity for me to feel like we were completing the full color story,” says Doug Ansine, Founder of Brain Child. “The missing piece to the puzzle came to me one day while visiting the Reebok Archive room and seeing an old pair of Reebok Trailzilla I’s on display. Immediately I knew that the aged color scheme I saw there would help us bring this project to the finish line. So now between Red and Blue Nebula pairs, you will see a full spectrum of color and the entire Cosmic Reef.”
That reference translates into a stunning yellow and light blue gradient, anchored here by a black midsole rather than the white tooling of the “Red Nebula.” The sneaker made its first public cameo on the back of a lookbook Brain Child sent out at the launch of the first style, itself a reflection of the care and attention to detail the Boston streetwear label has brought to its first collaborative Reebok series.
Official images show the blue and yellow gradient across the main mesh upper, with solid blue and yellow placements landing on the tongue and heel. Yellow rope laces add another layer, while black hits everywhere else contrast beautifully against the defining gradient scheme.
