The internet having democratized access in media is old hat at this point; it’s a well-established fact in our modern lives. There may still be gatekeepers in fashion and sneakers, but we’ve equally seen novel types of players enter the space; Jaylen Brown’s 741 Performance or the new independently backed YZY footwear, threatening an entrance to the wide market via JD Sports, cleanly speak to that. One of the more unexpected developments in recent years is the start of Justin Bieber’s SKYLRK endeavor, part fashion and part footwear, now restocking fresh colorways for its Matterdaddies silhouette.
The brand’s sneaker and slide catalog has always leaned trendy and somewhat abstract. While we always feel the urge to push back on what are always rampant claims of Ye influence, it’s not unfounded here, given the plush, formless Rest Slide carrying some serious YZY Slide comparisons.
However, the Matterdadides remain the most singular of its offerings, an intriguing merger between low-pro platforms and tech runner-inspired uppers, bringing a modernized take on track styling. Here, the model gets a chance to really show some range; tonal teal and flooded pink colorways showcase a more fashion-forward way of being, while black/gum and sporty off-white/aqua versions lean into a more well-established side of things.
The Justin Bieber SKYLRK x Matterdadies are now available via the brand’s site, clocking in at $140 a piece. Check for yours HERE.
